The annual DET Career Adviser Seminar provides useful career information for practising careers professionals, giving them the opportunity to learn more about what is on offer for their students once they have finished their studies and opportunity for professional development, networking and sharing of best practice ideas. Career advisers, VET coordinators and industry stakeholders involved in school to work transition activities and careers development would normally attend this seminar.
The seminar provides a wonderful opportunity to increase interaction between schools, business, industry and the community and career advisers so young people can gain skills, experience and professional guidance to help them move successfully from school to employment, further education or training.
Careers Expo offers career information and pathways advice to students. Exhibitors include Territory-wide and interstate employers, training providers, government departments and education organisations.
Try'a Trade is a Worldskills Australia initiative. Try'a Trade encourages Year 9 students to consider a career in the trades and take on Vocational Education and Training (VET) subjects at school. The event provides students with an opportunity to 'have a go' at various skill and trade occupations. The activities are entertaining, informative and offer interested people access to some of the basic skills involved in a range of trades.
