What is needed to run The Duke of Ed?
The role of a Duke of Ed Coordinator is to guide and mentor Participants, helping to set achievable goals and to offer encouragement! They are the support system for Participants who offer motivation and inspiration.
You need to have a positive attitude, a great relationship with young people and meet the requirements of being a Coordinator.
Remember, it is not a sprint, but a marathon, and while many young people can complete The Duke of Ed through effort over consecutive months, others may take longer and that’s ok. Just stand by them.
How do you register a participant for The Duke of Ed?
Registration in The Duke of Ed program is by mutual agreement from the Participant (young person) and the relevant Award Authority.
The Award Authority is usually a Licensed Operator, however some participants may undertake The Duke of Ed independently and therefore deal directly with their State or Territory Award Office.
To register, a Participant may have to pay a small fee. This differs in each State and Territory, so best to speak to the relevant State or Territory Award Office for fees and payment processes.Once registered, Coordinators are given the Record Book or Online Record Book log in details to give to the Participant in order for them to commence their Award! This information is provided to the Coordinator from the State/Territory office. A completed Record Book fulfilling all the requirements of The Duke of Ed is the basis for a Participant achieving and receiving an Award. The Record Book hard copy is transferable between States and Territories, and other countries, should a Participant move during the course of an Award.
If doing The Duke of Ed online, it can be transferred between States/Territories, however if the Participant is moving countries it will need to be discussed with the State/Territory office as this particular Online Record Book program is only used in Australia.
