The Adventurous Journey is one of the most rewarding
components of The Award.
Involving fun, getting out of the everyday and working as a team, it also teaches you some amazing life skills!
Once you have completed your relevant training, there are two types of journeys you need to undertake; so what are they?
Practice Journeys
At all levels, it is a requirement of The Award to undertake at least one practice journey.
Aim
To provide sufficient experience to enable Participants to plan and undertake the Qualifying Adventurous Journey safely and with confidence.
Even a highly skilled group of Participants must take part in a practice journey together to become familiar with each other's ways of working and develop as a team.
Details
Practice journeys should be of a similar nature and duration, and in a similar environment, to the planned final venture but not over the same route.
It should include overnight in a shelter, tent, hostel or other accommodation as appropriate.
E.g. A group may hike a local mountain and camp over night for their practice journey, prior to undertaking a hike interestate.
