New Arrivals Camp in SA

As one of the projects of South Australia, young new arrivals from Africa were sent on an incredible camp for 2 days.

A 2 day camp for new arrivals from northern Africa was held in Victor Harbor recently.  Andy Otten, Crows defender attended the Crows Foundation funded camp and met with the young Africans aged from 14 - 25 years who spent the weekend kayaking, learning about the ocean waters and mountain biking. The camp enabled the young participants to discovered new skills, interests and talents; develop self-confidence; make new friends; develop their communication skills; experience teamwork, problem solving and decision-making.

Crows Nest Camp

The camp was funded as part of the New Arrivals Initiative (NAI) of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. The NAI is designed to empower recently arrived young people from northern Africa and South East Asia through the participation in a locally delivered, locally supported program of activities. The four activity sections of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award are intended to provide a balanced program reflecting different aspects of a young person’s development. Young people’s participation in the initiative assists in the development of their self-esteem, their integration into the community and development of their leadership qualities through a program of personal discovery.
