QLD Gold Award Ceremony
A Gold Award ceremony was held on Sunday, 7
th
August at Parliament House in Brisbane. Over 250 people attended the event where 67 young people were p
resented with a Gold Award and eight adult volunteers were formally recognised for their contribution to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Program. Four of the eight volunteers were awarded a gold plaque for 20 years service to The Duke of Ed.
The Gold Awardees were from a range of licenses operators, including State High Schools, community organizations, Army and Navy Cadets and a number of private schools.
Mr Tim Quinn, Chair Queensland State Award Committee was Master of Ceremonies for the event. The Honourable Larry Anthony and The Honourable Karen Struthers Minister for Community Servicers and Housing and Minister for Women addressed the ceremony. Guest speakers at the event included Mr Glen Wallwork and Mr Walter Muzzazaila from Wesley Mission Brisbane, a licensed operator of The Duke of Ed.
The ceremony received media coverage with ABC radio morning news on Sunday referring to the ceremony and the Courier Mail photographer attending the event.
The next QLD ceremony is the Northern Gold Award Ceremony and will be held in Townsville on Saturday,12 November 2011.
