Set Sail for a Journey of a Lifetime

Are you between 16 and 23 years old?  Looking for a challenge? The Young Endeavour Youth Scheme is a not for profit organisation which provides young Australians with a unique, challenging and inspirational experience at sea aboard the national sail training ship Young Endeavour.

 21 year old Ben Jones of Hobart is completing his Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award, and sailed in Young Endeavour as his Residential Project. He says that his voyage left him with a fantastic feeling of accomplishment. “Duke of Ed and Young Endeavour have encouraged me to do things I would never normally do – to wake up and think, how can I make the best use of every minute of this day?”

A voyage aboard Young Endeavour is the voyage of a lifetime. You'll spend eleven days at sea with 23 other young Aussies, learning not only how to sail the ship, but how to work together as a team. You are involved in all aspects of sailing, including climbing the mast, setting the sails, navigating, keeping watch, taking the helm and helping in the galley. You’ll meet and live with people from across Australia, from all walks of life, many of whom may become your closest friends.

18 year old Brooke Bignell-Cowan, of the Gold Coast, also undertook a voyage in Young Endeavour for her Duke of Ed Residential Project. She says her voyage taught her how to get along with people from different backgrounds, even in difficult conditions. “My favourite moment aboard Young Endeavour was late one night, when the sea was extremely rough and the ship was on a huge tilt. We had to climb to the top of the mast and furl the main sail. It was challenging and exciting, and everyone worked together as a team”.
