The Territory Government is committed to delivering a Smart Territory through quality education and training.
For students who are in Year 10 and beyond, a number of strategies targeting student participation and engagement are highlighted in the DET Strategic Plan 2009-1021 such as job-aligned VET in Schools programs, access to Work Ready programs, and a Beyond School Guarantee.
Schools work closely with individual students to create personal learning plans to assist students in creating their own pathway into training, employment, or university.
In addition, initiatives such as Clontarf, partnerships with industry offer more pathways for our students through delivering real qualifications and making them work-ready.
Under the National Partnership on Youth Attainment and Transitions, Youth connections will commence from 1 January 2010. Youth Connections will provide case-managed support and linkages with wider community activities to help young people to build resilience, skills, and attributes that promote positive choices and wellbeing. The service will focus on assisting those who are already disengaged, or most at risk of disengaging, to re=connect with education or training, while supporting schools to assist student transitions. School, Community, Business Partnership Brokers will also provide support through the development of collaborative partnerships and networks, with the objective of improving participation, engagement, attainment, and transition outcomes for young people 12-19 years old.
