NTCET credits

AboutTheAward Did you know you could claim an NT Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET)  credit while you are still in Grade 9?

No? Well, did you know that the Bronze and Silver Award are both recognized as community-developed programs and that a participant may claim 10 to 20 credits towards his or her NTCET?

Since The Award compliments what you are already doing, why don’t you receive international recognition while you're at it!

Even if you are in year 9 (13 years 9 months) you can start earning a credit towards your senior schooling and be recognised for the activities you do outside of school. This gives you more free time in your Senior years so you can focus more on your academic studies, and on free-choice subjects that you really enjoy. Doing the Bronze Award earlier on can also give you time to think about what life skills you want to develop or pursue for your senior schooling years.

Some examples:

Sport: "Each week I play a sport, work in the canteen or help out my sporting club, coach little kids, and go away for a couple of days for sport."

That counts!

Environment: "I’m passionate about the environment so I want to framework the program around my career interest. I volunteer for the botanical gardens, I am doing extra studies in flora and fauna and enjoy going hiking, I ride a bike but I’m not involved in a club so my PE teacher / personal trainer has provided me with a goal to increase stamina and achieve a personal best."

That counts too!

"If I had known Duke’s gave me an NTCET credit I would have stayed in school and dropped a subject. I didn’t know this was an option so I left school as doing so many subjects was too hard. I would rather have had a freeline in school to study and still have free time at home and do what I wanted to do."

What are recognised studies?

  • Recognised studies gives you more flexibility in what and where you study.
  • Recognised studies can help you think more clearly about your further education, training and work.
  • They are also an effective way to re-engage young people back into education.

What does 10 credits equal?

A full semester (six months) of study in one subject/ recognised community developed program is worth 10 credits.

Remember

one subject = 10 credits

Gain 200 credits in the right mix of subjects and courses and you will receive your NTCET

How long will it take me to complete a level of The Award?

We encourage our participants to complete an Award before they finish school so they can claim an NTCET credit point.
